Christian Education
at Rocky River Baptist Church

Christian education, through traditional Sunday School classes, provides an opportunity to examine Scripture, enjoy fellowship and conduct ministry within the church and its broader community. Classes are offered for children and adults on Sundays at 10 a.m.

Preschool Classes. Three classes available for children of preschool age featuring Bible stories, music and fun activities. Teachers include Allison Gaines, Cathy York, Mikki Teague, Faye Kinton, Sylvia Culberson and Mark & Tricia Culberson.

Bible Learners. Boys and girls in first and second grades meet for Bible study and activities. Julie Teague, teacher.

Bible Discoverers. Third and fourth grade students study Biblically-based lessons. Helen Nunn & Nancy Allen, teachers.

Bible Searchers. Lessons for fifth and sixth graders are drawn from the preteen edition of the Family Bible Studies curriculum, used by several adult and youth classes. Emma Bass & Elaine Gaines, teachers.

Younger Youth. Keith Kidd & Pastor Greg Burriss, teachers.

Older Youth. The focus for high school students, grades nine through 12, is on applying the Scriptures to our everyday lives and to the particular problems youth face today. Amy Olsen, teacher.

"The Class Formerly Known as Single Adults." Though no longer single, members of the class are generally younger and, well, married. Vicky Burriss, teacher.

Soaring Eagles. This class consists mainly of couples (there are some singles) with ages ranging from mid-20s to 40. As parents of young children, members of this class have families who are very active in many areas of the church. Together, this group studies and learns to apply the scriptures to their daily lives. Alice Sue Teague & Charlie Teague, teachers.

Adult I Bible Class. A discussion-oriented class for men and women designed to examine passages in Scripture, debate important theological questions and draw lessons that can be applied to daily life. Though there are no age limits on the class, most members are in their 40s or 50s. Phil Culberson, president.

Diane Hicks Bible Class. Named in memory of a beloved member, Diane Lindley Hicks, this class is quite varied in ages. As we study the Bible and the lesson material, class members are eager to participate in discussion as it relates to everyday life situations. John Johnson & Chip Price, teachers.

Adult II Fellowship Class. We are a class of all women, no certain age. We enjoy our lessons and we enjoy our fellowship together. Doris Buckner, teacher.

Friendship Class. First organized in 1929, the Friendship Class continues its tradition of sharing a common interest in studying the Bible and lesson materials, and striving to be better examples and more effective witnesses for our Lord. We consist of a close-knit group, including both couples and singles. Some are working people; others are retired. But our one goal is to be more like our Lord as we continue to do his work. Marie Johnson, teacher. Peggy Kirby & Maxine Nunn, assistants.

Women's Bible Class. Although many of our members are grandmothers, we welcome women of any age who want to grow in Christ and continue to learn what God has to say to us in His word. We use the Life Ventures series (PDF link) of literature. Rose Pate, teacher. Mary Frances Davis, president.

Men's Bible Class. Clyde Teague, teacher.

Extension Education. Teachers meet with members of the church who are home bound for Christian education and fellowship. Teachers include Sylvia Culberson, Colleen Sykes & Doris Buckner.

Christian education classes are offered with the assistance of Sunday School director Charlie Teague and secretaries Marion Johnson, Charles Fuquay & Freddie Rickman.
